Car & Truck Battery

We can help you choose the right battery for your vehicle and lifestyle. Our staff at Parma Tire & Automotive with a location in Parma OH & Brunswick Ohio can safely and professionally install your battery and get you back on the road.

Your car's electrical system powers everything from the ignition and fuel systems to accessories such as your radio, headlights and wipers. The electrical system is, in turn, powered by the engine. Here are the three key components of the electrical system:

    Battery

  • When your car's engine is off, the battery provides the required power to the rest of the system, as well as during start-up (cranking). It also supplements the power from the charging system during periods of high demand.

    Charging System

  • This is the heart of the electrical system. It consists of three main components: the belt-driven alternator, various electrical circuits, and a voltage regulator. The alternator supplies power to the electrical system and recharges the battery after your car has started. Car Battery testing Just like it sounds, the voltage regulator controls the voltage, keeping it within the operating range of the electrical system.

    Starting System

  • This system consumes more electrical power than any other component in your car. The starting system consists of three components which work in tandem: the ignition switch, the starter relay or solenoid, and the starter motor. The ignition switch controls the starter solenoid, which activates the starter motor. The starter motor then turns the engine until your car starts.

Car Electrical problems

Your vehicle's battery primarily helps to start the engine. However, it also stores energy generated by the alternator, and runs the secondary electrical systems or additional components in your vehicle. To help you take care of your battery, while inspecting your battery, we will perform tasks such as remove corrosion truck batteryfrom the terminals and check the alternator belt tension and inspect for wear.

car battery inspectionBattery Check DIY - Did you know that many electrical issues and ignition problems stem from loose or corroded battery connections? Battery grime can also cause leaks and shorten the life of your vehicle’s battery. The next time you check your vehicle’s fluid levels, check to see if your battery has any corrosion on the posts or cable connectors? If you see any corrosion, you’ll want to clean both posts completely. If the corrosive build up is not cleaned off, it will interfere with the electrical connection and can eat away at the wires and terminals, to the point of replacement. However, make sure to use the appropriate brush. They are inexpensive and can be picked up at any auto parts store. One of the most important things to remember when performing a comprehensive battery cleaning is to make sure that you don’t allow the tools to contact the positive battery terminal and a ground source at the same time. This can destroy the battery. You’ll also want to make sure that the terminals are reconnected correctly and snuggly. By having a great and clean connection, your vehicle’s electrical and ignition systems will run at their peak. It will also help prolong the life of the battery, save you money in the long-run and help prevent unwanted problems while driving.
